Archives for April 2010
I’m sure some of you may have noticed, but I have mentioned in the past now having 5 cats. I’m sure some of you may have also noticed that said 5th cat has never been seen. This is due to a number of things, such as my laziness, dead camera batteries, and severe mats on her part. Be that as it may, I’ve just been lazy about taking photo’s. But, I’m determined to change this. I threw my batteries in the charger last night, and when I awoke this morning, slapped them in my camera and started taking some pictures again. So the very smug cat you see to your left is in fact that mystery 5th cat, Delilah. She was given to us this winter by one of Dustin’s friends parents. Their newest dog didn’t get along with her, so they decided to re-home her, and we offered to take her. Technically she is Dustin’s cat, but she’s quite clingy with everyone.
She is a purebred seal point himalayan, and her behavior is very true to a himmy. She’s very much a piece of furniture, in that she likes to lounge about the couch, as well as being very social, vocal, and playful. She’s also quite clingy and needy, and lets you know that she wants your attention by meowing or jumping on you. She also gets along very well with the other cats and the dogs, so she fits right in with us.
While taking photo’s of her, I also stepped outside to snap some shots of the flowers coming up around the outside of our house. It’s been chilly the past couple of days, so for it to warm back up and be sunny outside was a welcome break. I caught a couple of nice shots though of the flowers outside:
I’m really going to push myself this summer to break out my camera more often and get some photo’s taken. My next plan is to head down to the lake on a day off and try to get some shots of the lake and the duck’s and geese down there.
Yes, you read that right. I love having a dining room again. For the first time since I was pretty young, say 12 or 13, I have a dining room that is used almost every evening. The other plus to using the dining room almost every night means that I’m cooking almost every night as well. Even on nights when I work until close (I get out of work by 9:40-ish at the latest and home by 10) either Bill or I cooks dinner. It’s so awesome, and I feel so much better.
Growing up poor, I ate alot of packaged dinners, like hamburger helper, so I avoid the stuff at all costs. Cheap, quick meals for us generally mean a burger or bratwurst cooked on the foreman grill (outdoor grill now that it’s nice outside again) and some steamed veggies, shrimp stir fry over rice, or chicken and mushroom quesadilla’s with steamed rice (I’m pro at making Chipotle style rice at home). But most nights, we spend around 30-40 minutes making something.
Some things we have cooked over the past week are:
- Spare ribs with grilled mushrooms, green beans, asparagus, and a tossed salad.
- Grilled BBQ chicken, with grilled mushrooms, green beans, asparagus, and a tossed salad.
- Grilled cheeseburgers, mushrooms, and tossed salad.
- Grilled chicken, penne with spaghetti sauce, garlic bread, and steamed broccoli. (this was tonight’s dinner)
Another bonus we have been reaping lately is the beautiful spring weather. It’s made us able to fire up our grill again, and cook that way. I dunno about everyone else, but I seriously love grilling things on a good charcoal grill, and nothing matches the taste either. Both Bill and I have become quite awesome at grilling from last summer, so I can’t wait to see what we can make this year.
All in all it makes me feel very domesticated, but super happy to cook a delicious, healthy meal, and sit down with my husband at the table and enjoy it.
P.S. I’ve also put up a new layout! Questions, comments, etc are quite welcome!
I’ve been incredibly busy lately. Bill and I have been doing a ton of spring cleaning, especially since our roommates have moved out. We started by ripping out our living and dining room carpet to uncover the awesome hardwood floors underneath. Then we moved our computers to the extra bedroom we now have to make it into an office. Then we moved the living room around. Then we actually set up a dining room, which by the way it’s awesome having a dining room. We’ve also cleaned up our bedroom and kitchen and re-arranged our kitchen cabinets. Now that most of the house is in order, we’re both feeling alot better overall, and the guilt of the house being messy and unorganized is finally wearing off.
I’ve also been busy working. I really like my new job, and so far it seems to be going really well. My benefits kick in on May 1st and I just can’t wait. I haven’t had health coverage in well over 6 years, so I’m actually excited to schedule an appointment to go in and just have a checkup. I’m also going to be asking for a prescription for Chantix to attempt quitting again. I had done so well until I got laid off and I can’t get around remembering how miserable I was for close to a month when I quit last time. So I’m hoping that with the Chantix I can finally quit for good, without the terrible cravings, sleepless nights, etc.
I also made a huge decision. I’m going to be registering to go to Kent starting in the fall. I’m going to be going for a B.F.A. in 2-D graphic design. Bill is also going to be going to school in the fall, he’s just deciding between Kent and fire school.
I’m also trying to take a picture a week. I would try a 365, but I know I would fail. I figure if I simply try for a picture a week, chances are I will make it! So add me on DailyBooth if you have one!
