My birthday yesterday, started out somewhat depressing. I was upset, hit by grief over the fact that it was my first birthday without Dad. All I could think that morning was the fact that I wouldn’t ever hear him say “Happy birthday sweeties” again. Which all things considered, I can’t be too upset over since I have been emotionally dealing with the loss really well. I did have a feeling my birthday would be hard.
Yesterday did turn out really well though. I accidentally got up and went into work. I didn’t know we got our birthday off, so I went in and since we had a meeting stayed till after it was over and then left work at 10. I went home from there to get Bill and then we started on our day. I went to the DMV to update my plates for another year, and we stopped at Panera for lunch. From there we went to the mall to get my birthday presents from him. What he’d wanted to do was take me to get some jewelry and a couple other small things.
I ended up getting a cute spring/summer outfit at Old Navy and a pair of diamond studs and a black pearl necklace from Alvin’s. We also found something else, that we put on layaway. We’ve been looking at engagement rings online for a couple weeks now and we happened across a engagement ring and wedding band that I adored at Alvin’s. Only problem was that it was the only one they had and on clearance, so yesterday we put it on layaway to keep it so we can pay it off and pick it up either this weekend or next.
I about melted. I knew it was going to be soon, but to know the ring is picked out now, and now I just have to wait until he does propose has me on pins and needles. While it isn’t a total surprise since I picked the ring out, we’re both happy because he knows I love the ring and the actual proposal can be a surprise, though he has said he knows he won’t be able to wait very long haha.
So expect some awesome news sometime in the relatively near future I am sure!
After all the shopping and crying over the adorable dogs at the pet store, we headed home. I took a nap and then Rachel came over around 9 and took me out. She got me a very cute bento box and chopsticks and a gorgeous ornament of an anime-ish looking girl holding 3 cats for my birthday. After we talked for a minute we headed downtown were she proceeded to buy me a shot at every bar in downtown Kent. Now, let me tell you that’s a decent amount of bars seeing how ti’s a college town. I think we hit 7 bars in all. We ended the night at Firefly hookah bar and shared a rose hookah while relaxing and bullshitting till 1 am.
All in all, one of the most mazing birthdays I have ever had. It’s amazing how quickly things can turn around when your surrounded by people who truly care about you.
