That above is the tattoo I got when I was 19. My boyfriend at the time and I had decided instead of continuing to live in the shithole that is Massillon on our own, we would move back to Akron with my Dad. And like any other irresponsible teens do, we decided we’d get tattoo’s.
So instead of doing the adult thing and planning it out and finding something that had meaning to me, we made an impulsive stop one day at a tattoo studio out near our apartment. I combed the flash on the walls and made my impulsive choice.
Now, don’t get me wrong, the tattoo itself is well done. It just has no meaning to me.
Recently I decided to finally make the investment in myself again and pursue some of the tattoo’s I have wanted for years. I chose to start with covering up my arm tattoo with a tree idea I had been eyeballing for quite a while. On my search for the perfect local tattoo artist for the job I came across what ended up being a tattoo done by a local artist that was perfectly what I was looking for.
So I walked in with that picture saved on my phone and just a general idea of what I wanted. After the consultation I was confident in my choice and I booked my sitting.
Due to recent events I ended up having to reschedule with her twice and finally got to go in last night, on my anniversary, to get started. Originally the plan was to finish in one sitting, but we ended up going bigger then I think originally planned. Since it was a cover up, to make sure it would work, she ended up waiting until I got there to sketch out the design on my arm. She drew the basic structure and then free-handed the majority of the leaves through the tree.
It is better then I thought it would be and it’s still only the outline! I go back in 2 weeks to have the shading and colors added in. But for now, here is the outline:
